Give your ears a little bit of bling with these basic loop with a pendant earrings! Using the basic loops technique, you'll use wire to create a looped link with your bead and connect the top loop of the link directly to your ear wire. The bottom loop will connect to a jump ring, which you'll use to dangle a sparkling pendant. These shimmering earrings were made with Tahitian Swarovski Elements Crystal Pearl beads, Crystal Silver Shade Swarovski Elements Crystal pendants and silver plated base metal ear wires. If you prefer to use different colors when you make these earrings, feel free to customize the pattern as desired and truly make it your own! Round Nose Pliers

Round nose pliers have smooth, tapered, conical jaws that are used to create loops with wire. The conical nose enables you to shape the wire around it to create perfect circles.

Chain Nose Pliers

Chain nose pliers have smooth, tapered, flat jaws for gripping, bending and manipulating wire. The tapered nose is ideal for reaching small spaces and maneuvering wire with precision.

Wire Cutters

Wire cutters have sharp blades that will cut wire with a close, flush cut. The flat side of the cutters should be closest to where you want to cut. Using the tips of the cutters will help you make a more precise cut.

Beads

These earrings were made with a colorful mix of Swarovski Elements beads and pendants, but you can personalize the earrings with different colors, shapes or materials of your choosing! When choosing alternate beads, be sure to check that the hole is drilled straight through the center of the bead. Beads with off-center holes will not sit correctly on the wire.

Eye Pins

Eye pins are similar to head pins except the wire ends with a small loop instead of a head. The loop can be attached to another eye pin, head pin, clasp or other finding. Links can then be connected to form chains or long dangles. Eye pins come in different gauges (usually 20-26 gauge) and lengths.

Jump Rings

Jump rings are small rings of wire used to attach wire elements or charms to other elements. They can also be used as a catch for clasps such as lobster claw and S clasps. Open jump rings can be opened and re-closed with pliers.

Ear Wires

An ear wire is the wire hook that goes through a pierced earlobe. You can dangle beads, charms, chain and more from ear wires by attaching them to the loop at the bottom of the ear wires. Ear wires are available in an array of precious metals and base metals, and come in a wide variety of shapes and styles.

Step 1

To begin your earrings, cut a 1 1/2 inch piece of wire. Using chain nose pliers, make a 90° bend 3/8 inch from the end of the wire.

Step 2

You will use round nose pliers to make the loops. When you use round nose pliers, work close to the tips of the pliers to create a small loop. Work close to the handles of the pliers to create a large loop. The diagram gives you an idea of the size of the loop depending on where it is formed on the plier jaws.

Step 3

Grasp the end of the wire with round nose pliers so the wire is flush with the plier jaws.

Step 4

Turn the pliers, pulling the wire around and beginning to form a loop.

Step 5

Open the pliers, pivot the upper jaw away from the end of the wire without removing it from the from the loop. Close the plier jaws.

Step 6

Turn the pliers until the loop is completely formed and the end of the wire touches the wire above the bead.

Step 7

String a 10mm Tahitian crystal pearl onto the wire.

Step 8

Use wire cutters to cut the wire 3/8 inch above the bead.

Step 9

Using chain nose pliers, grasp the wire directly above the bead. Bend to a 90° angle using chain nose pliers. If you are using fine gauge wire, you can push the wire over the top of your bead with your finger instead of using the pliers.

Step 10

Grasp the end of the wire with round nose pliers so the end of the wire is flush with the plier jaws. Use the same spot on the plier jaws as you used in step 3 to make the loops the same size.

Step 11

Turn the pliers, pulling the wire around and beginning to form a loop.

Step 12

Open the pliers, pivot the upper jaw away from the end of the wire without removing it from the from the loop. Close the plier jaws.

Step 13

Turn the pliers until the loop is completely formed and the end of the wire touches the wire above the bead.

Step 14

Using your fingers and a pair of chain nose pliers, hold the jump ring and open the jump ring by turning the pliers and pushing one side away from the other.

Step 15

Slide the jump ring through the crystal pendant and the unoccupied loop of the link.

Step 16

To close the jump ring, move the sides together in a back and forth wiggle motion. Slightly overlap the sides of the jump ring so there is tension when the two sides meet. Snap the two sides together to close the jump ring. The seam should be closed tightly.

Step 17

To finish the earring, find the side of the loop on the ear wire with the opening and grasp it with your chain nose pliers. Open the ear wire by bending this side towards you.

Step 18

Slide the open loop of the ear wire into the loop of the dangle.

Step 19

To close the ear wire, grasp the open side of the ear wire loop with your chain nose pliers and bend it away from you. Make sure the end of the wire touches the side of the loop and is completely and securely closed.

Step 20

Your ear wire is now securely attached. You have finished one earring! Repeat steps 1-19 to make the second earring. Congratulations! You have finished your basic loop with a pendant earrings!
