Step 1

Start with a piece of wire that has flush cuts on both ends. Grasp one end of the wire with the round nose pliers.

Step 2

Rotate the pliers to form a small loop on one end of the wire.

Step 3

Grasp the other end of the wire with the round nose pliers and make a small loop in the opposite direction from the first loop.

Step 4

You now have a small loop on both ends of the wire. Make sure the loops are in opposite directions of each other.

Step 5

Grasp the wire just above one the loops with of the Small Wrap and Tap Pliers.

Step 6

The wire will be looped around the middle barrel of the Small Wrap and Tap Pliers.

Step 7

Pull the wire back, down and around the pliers until the wire touches the loop.

Step 8

Turn the wire over and grasp the wire just above the other small loop with the Small Wrap and Tap Pliers.

Step 9

The wire will be looped around the middle barrel of the small wrap and tap pliers.

Step 10

Pull the wire back, down and around the pliers until the wire touches the loop. Then remove the s hook from the pliers.

Step 11

Congratulations, you have now completed an s hook.

Finishing Option 1 - Step 1

To harden the clasp without changing its shape, place the clasp on a bench block. Then use a plastic or rawhide mallet to hammer the clasp several times.

Finishing Option 2 - Step 1

You can flatten the entire s hook. Place the s hook on a bench block and using the flat, broad side of your chasing hammer, hammer one half of the s hook.

Finishing Option 2 - Step 2

Rotate the s hook and continuing hammering the remaining half of the s hook.

Finishing Option 2 - Step 3

Congratulations! You have now flattened the entire s hook.

Finishing Option 3 - Step 1

You can flatten just the "S" curves of the s hook. Place the s hook on a bench block and using the flat, broad side of your chasing hammer, hammer just the "S" curves of the s hook.

Finishing Option 3 - Step 2

Rotate the s hook and continuing hammering the other "S" curve of the s hook.

Finishing Option 3 - Step 3

Congratulations! You have now flattened both "S" curves of the s hook.
