Möbius Flower Chain Maille

See the tabs below for all products and tools used in this technique, plus any additional tips that may be helpful to you!

Mobius flowers are used frequently in chain maille as design elements. Their round, flower-like appearance comes from stacking multiple rings in a circular pattern.

Tip 1Use a paperclip or a twist tie to help remember which side of the chain is your working side. It will also give you something to hold onto as you work.

Step 1

To make a single Möbius Flower, open nine 6.5mm 18 gauge rings and close one 6.5mm ring. It takes 10 rings to complete a single flower.

Step 2

Connect one open ring to the closed ring. Stack the second ring on top of the first ring.

Step 3

Connect one open ring through previous two rings. Stack the third ring on top of the first two rings.

Step 4

Connect one open ring through previous three rings. Stack the fourth ring on top of the first three rings.

Step 5

Connect one open ring through previous four rings. Stack the fifth ring on top of the first four rings.

Step 6

Connect one open ring through previous five rings. Stack the sixth ring on top of the first five rings.

Step 7

Connect one open ring through previous six rings. Stack the seventh ring on top of the first six rings.

Step 8

Connect one open ring through previous seven rings. Stack the eighth ring on top of the first seven rings.

Step 9

Connect one open ring through previous eight rings. Stack the ninth ring on top of the first eight rings.

Step 10

Connect one open ring through previous nine rings. Stack the tenth ring on top of the first nine rings.

Step 11

Congratulations, you have completed one Möbius Flower!

Step 12

To make a chain, add four 6mm 18 gauge rings through the center of the Möbius flower. Divide the rings in half, and position two rings on each side of the flower.

Step 13

Repeat steps 1-11 to make a second flower.

Step 14

Attach both of the Möbius Flowers together by joining the pairs together with a single 4mm 18 gauge jump ring.

Step 15

Repeat steps 1-13 until your Möbius Flower chain reaches its desired length.

Step 16

Congratulations, you have learned to make a Möbius Flower Chain!
