Step 1

First, prepare your work area. Make sure you have a protective layer underneath the fabric you are going to embellish, just in case the glue seeps through to the other side. A sheet of paper or cardboard works well.

Step 2

Choose the crystal colors and sizes for your project.

Step 3

Choose the fabric or leather you want to embellish.

Step 4

There are two options to choose from when deciding how to apply the crystals. The tip that you use depends on which option you choose.
Option A - Using the Corresponding Size Tip. (This is good when using all the same size crystals).
Option B - Using the Flat Tip. (This is good when using multiple size crystals in one design or when using nail heads or studs).

Option A - #1

Organize your crystals so that they are sitting flat on their backs and easy to access. A metal triangle is perfect for this, as you can shake it gently to get the crystals to show color side up.

Option A - #2

Plot out your design. For this technique, we chose to follow the pattern of the fabric.

Option A - #3

Choose the corresponding tip to fit your crystal size. Screw the tip onto the end of the tool in a clockwise motion.

Option A - #4

Plug the tool in and let it sit for 3-5 minutes to heat up.

Option A - #5

Place the tip of the tool over a crystal and lift up gently so that you can see the underside of the crystal.

Option A - #6

Let the glue heat up for approximately 20 seconds. The glue will begin to bubble.

Option A - #7

Once the glue is heated, press the crystal down onto the fabric, making sure to keep the tool perpendicular to the fabric surface. Hold the tool in place for approximately 5 seconds.

Option A - #8

Lift the tool away from the fabric. If the crystal is stuck in the tip, insert either a head pin or the sharp end of a pair of tweezers into the slit in the side of the tip and dislodge the crystal.

Option A - #9

If you set the crystal in the wrong place, just reheat the crystal for approximately 10 seconds and move it into the correct place.

Option A - #10

Once you are done with tip and are ready to switch to another size, unplug the tool and let it cool. When the tool is cool to the touch, you can switch out the tip. The tool will take at least 15 minutes to cool.

Option B - #1

Lay out all the crystals on the fabric in your desired pattern.

Option B - #2

Screw the flat tip onto the end of the tool in a clockwise motion.

Option B - #3

Plug the tool in and let it sit for 3-5 minutes to heat up.

Option B - #4

Press the tip evenly onto the faceted center of the first crystal. Hold for approximately 30 seconds.

Option B - #5

Lift the tool away from the fabric. Press the tip evenly onto both the faceted center of the second and the first crystal, keeping the majority of the tip on the second crystal. Hold for approximately 30 seconds.

Option B - #6

Repeat in this manner until your design is complete.

Step 5

Unplug the tool and let cool. When the tool is cool to the touch, you can pack the tool away. The tool will take at least 15 minutes to cool.

Step 6

Congratulations! You have created a beautiful crystal hotfix flat back design with the BeJeweler® Pro Electric Rhinestone Setter Tool!
