An open-back bezel allows light to shine through ICE Resin – a stunning effect with your unique embellishments. Follow our step-by-step instructions for this creative technique.
Open Back Bezel
Beading Scissors 1-1/4 in. Blade
Try using different materials such as transparency paper, pigments, and glitter. Add crystals, beads or charms for dimension.
If using any organic objects such as leaves or flowers make sure they are completely dry before use.
Pick out an open back bezel to use. We chose a 40mm rectangle open back sterling silver bezel.
Cut a piece of contact paper large enough to fit over the back of the open back bezel.
Press the contact paper along the back of the open back bezel making sure it is firmly adhered to the open back. This will prevent any resin from seeping out from the bottom of the bezel as it cures.
You have now adhered your contact paper to the back of the open back bezel.
Mix a small batch of resin. For more detailed instructions see Using ICE Resin with Bezel Pendants Technique.
Place the open back bezel on an even work surface. Slowly begin to coat the bottom of the open back bezel with a thin layer of ICE Resin.
Using a stir stick make sure the bottom of the open back bezel is completely covered with resin.
Choose your desired image, pigment, or glitter to put into your open back bezel. We chose glass shards for our open back bezel.
Carefully place your desired amount of glass shards in the open back bezel.
You have now added your glass shards on top of the thin layer of ICE Resin in your open back bezel.
Slowly begin to pour more ICE Resin in the open back bezel. If you would like to dome your piece fill the bezel 3/4 of the way full otherwise pour your ICE Resin to the top of the open back bezel.
When pouring ICE Resin over the glass shards they will tend to move around. Using a stir stick gently move the glass shards back into place.
Let the Ice Resin fully cure for a minimum of three days.
After the ICE Resin has had time to fully cure slowly take off the contact paper from the back of the open back bezel. If done properly the contact paper should leave no sticky residue.
Congratulations! You have created a unique ICE Resin piece to use in your jewelry designs.
