  • Size D Beading Thread
  • Clasp
Tools
Tip: This technique is shown using a single thread but can also be created by doubling your thread. This will make your stitch tighter.

Tip: Try varying the pattern with different size seed beads or different color patterns.

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3
Step 1
For a basic spiral rope design, choose two colors - a core color (A) and an outside color (B).
Step 2
Cut a piece of thread about 6 feet long. Thread your needle.
Step 3
Use Thread Heaven to condition your thread. This will help prevent fraying.
Step 4 Step 5 Step 6
Step 4
String a stopper bead. This bead will be removed later so the color does not matter.
Step 5
Go back through the stopper bead to hold it in place.
Step 6
The stopper bead should sit about 12 inches from the end of the thread.
Step 7 Step 8 Step 9
Step 7
Begin your spiral rope by stringing 4 core beads (A).
Step 8
String 3 outside beads (B).
Step 9
Bring all the beads down to the end of thread, next to the stopper bead. Go back up through the 4 core beads.
Step 10 Step 11 Step 12
Step 10
String 1 A and 3 B beads.
Step 11
Go back through the last 4 A beads.
Step 12
Continue the pattern of stringing 1 A and 3 B beads.
Step 13 Step 14 Step 15
Step 13
Go back up through the last 4 A beads. As you continue working spiral rope, always turn each completed loop in the same direction. Hold the loops away from the core as you work to make the core easier to see.
Step 14
Continue pattern by repeating steps 12 and 13 until you have reached the desired length.
Step 15
If you have come to the end of your thread and still need to add beads, go back through the last 3 B beads.
Step 16 Step 17 Step 18
Step 16
Go back up through the last 4 A beads. Repeat steps 15 and 16 twice more.
Step 17
Cut your thread.
Step 18
To add thread, cut another piece of thread approximately 6 feet long. Remember to use your Thread Heaven again. Thread your needle through the last 4 A beads. Leave about an inch of thread at the end.
Step 19 Step 20 Step 21
Step 19
Continue your pattern by stringing 1 A and 3 B beads.
Step 20
Go back up through the last 4 A beads.
Step 21
Continue working pattern until you have reached desired length.
Step 22 Step 23 Step 24
Step 22
To add a clasp, thread one side of your clasp onto the thread.
Step 23
Go back through the last 3 B beads.
Step 24
Go back up through the last 4 A beads.
Step 25 Step 26 Step 27
Step 25
Then go through your clasp again and repeat steps 23 through 25 three more times to secure the clasp.
Step 26
Cut your thread.
Step 27
To clean up the ends of your thread, use a Perfect End Thread Burner.
Step 28 Step 29 Step 30
Step 28
Once the tip of the thread burner is heated, gently touch it to the end of the thread.
Step 29
Burn, or melt, the end of your thread until the end is no longer visible.
Step 30
Repeat steps 27 through 29 for all of your thread ends.
Step 31
Step 31
For the opposite end of your piece, remove the stopper bead. Thread your needle onto the end of the thread and repeat steps 22 through 29 with the other side of your clasp.
