Peyote Stitch Bezel Materials
  • Round or oval item to bezel (we have used a 12mm crystal rivoli stone)
  • Size 11 Delicas
  • Size 15 Japanese seed beads
  • Thread (we have used FireLine, size D)
Tools
  • Size 12 beading needle
  • Scissors
  • Perfect End Thread Burner
Tip: After creating the bezel, try adding beads to the edge for embellishment.

Tip: Approximate number of starting beads for different size stones:
  • 12mm = 32 Delicas
  • 14mm = 36 Delicas
  • 16mm = 40 Delicas
  • 18mm = 46 Delicas

  • Step 1 Step 2 Step 3
    Step 1
For this technique, we are using a size 11 Delica (bead A) and a size 15 Japanese seed bead.
    Step 2
Choose a round or oval item to bezel. For this technique we have chosen a 12mm crystal rivoli stone.
    Step 3
Cut a piece of thread about 6 feet long. Thread the needle.
    Step 4 Step 5 Step 6
    Step 4
Begin the bezel by stringing enough Delicas (bead A) to fit around the widest portion of the object to bezel. For this 12mm rivoli, we are stringing 32 Delicas.
    Step 5
Bring the beads down to about 6 inches from the end of the thread. Create a ring by going back through the first bead.
    Step 6
Make sure the ring of beads fits around the widest portion or your stone. If it does not fit, add or subtract beads by two to ensure you have an even number of beads in the ring.
    Step 7 Step 8 Step 9
    Step 7
Pass your needle back through all of the beads again and exit from the first bead again.
    Step 8
Begin the peyote stitch by stringing one bead A.
    Step 9
Skip one bead and pass your needle through the next bead.
    Step 10 Step 11 Step 12
    Step 10
    String one bead A.
    Step 11
Skip one bead and pass your needle through the next bead.
    Step 12
    String one A bead.
    Step 13 Step 14 Step 15
    Step 13
Skip one bead and pass your needle through the next bead.
    Step 14
Repeat steps 12 and 13 until you have peyote stitched completely around the original ring of beads. The needle should exit from first bead of the original ring.
    Step 15
"Step up" to the next row by passing your needle through the next outside row bead.
    Step 16 Step 17 Step 18
    Step 16
You should now have 3 complete rows of peyote stitch.
    Step 17
To begin bringing the edges of the peyote circle in, creating the front side of the bezel, string one size 15 seed bead (bead B).
    Step 18
Go through the next outer bead.
    Step 19 Step 20 Step 21

    Step 32
Weave the needle back through the rows of peyote in a step-like fashion until you reach the outer row of Delicas.
