Our chain glossary is a goldmine of information on all styles of jewelry making chain, from ball chain to flat cable chain to twisted helix chain. We want you to have all the information you need to master your creativity!
Ball chain is composed of tiny spheres rather than open links.
A box chain is made up of links that are wide and square (like a box) that are connected to create a smooth chain.
Twisted helix chain is made up of chain links interlocking so they form a twisted pattern.
Omega chain is made up of metal links assembled on a wire or woven mesh that form a tube. The embedded wire is what provides the strength. The Omega chain is somewhat flexible, but it is still sufficiently rigid that it retains its ring shape when worn.
Rope chain is made of twisted wire links that resemble rope.
Parallel chain lays like single curb chain but consists of two links side by side (parallel to each other) linking directly to the next set of parallel links.
Ladder chain has round or oval links where the ends of the link fold over each end of the next link.
Double curb chain has two links running parallel to each other and interlocking with each other when laid flat. Curb chain links have a twisted interwoven look.
Double cable chain has two links running parallel that are formed using round wire in round-shaped or oval-shaped links.
Snake chain which has a smooth, elegant texture, is a very tight-linked chain that has a round or square cross-section and has links that create a slight zigzag look.
Woven wire chain is made up of wire woven together to form a long continuous chain.
Round link chain is made of round links connecting to one another.
