FusionBeads.com offers a wide variety of adhesives – each is ideal for a specific purpose. This handy table will help you select the right adhesive for the task at hand.
When first opening a tube of glue, rub petroleum jelly on the inside of the cap to make it easier to open on successive uses.
Make sure the surfaces receiving adhesive are clean and dry before applying the glue. Most glue will not adhere properly if the surface is dirty or oily.
Always work in a well-ventilated area. Most adhesives have harmful fumes and may be flammable. Read health and safety precautions on the label before you begin.
|Hypo Tube Cement |
|Acrylic cement. Thin glue with a small, needlepoint applicator tip. Dries clear. Will not bond to fingers.||30 – 40 minutes||Dries slowly, allowing more time to position small parts on non-porous surface. The pinpoint applicator is especially useful for gluing the ends of beading thread or cord to prevent fraying. Recommended for pearl knotting, and works well with threads and fabric.|
|Hypo Fabric Cement |
|Water- and heat-resistant fabric glue. Thicker than Hypo Cement.||30 – 60 minutes||Works well on fabric, thread, textiles, leather, plastics and appliqués. The pinpoint applicator is especially useful for gluing the ends of beading thread or cord to prevent fraying. Ideal for gluing flat back crystals to fabric and for securing knots when pearl knotting. Do not dry clean.|
|5 Minute Epoxy |
|GA two-part thixotropic/nonmigrating gel adhesive that is thick under normal conditions but flows when shaken. Very strong odor. Dries clear.||15 minutes – 12 hours||Bonds metal, ceramic and wood. Push epoxy out into a small container or onto scrap paper. Using a mixing stick, vigorously mix gels for one minute. Apply mixed epoxy directly to one surface in an even film or as a bead. Press together firmly to minimize gaps and ensure good contact.|
|Dazzle-Tac Jewelry Glue |
|An extra-strong, permanent glue for base metals, semi-precious stones, glass, beads, bone, mirrors, wire, mosaics and more. Dries crystal clear. Waterproof and UV resistant for greater durability. Strong odor. Superior impact-resistant formula to keep stones and findings secure.||24 hours. Bond will increase over time.||Apply glue to both surfaces and press together. Suitable for some plastics, but shiny plastics may need light sanding to improve adhesion. For tiny stones or wire, apply glue with a toothpick or any other small, pointed applicator. If possible, test on scrap materials first to ensure compatibility. Do not steam-clean glued jewelry.|
|E6000 Adhesive |
110ml and 29.7ml
|High-performance industrial adhesive. Thick, strong-smelling glue, so work in a wellventilated area. Use of applicator tip is recommended. Dries clear.||24-72 hours. Works best in temperatures between 70 F and 84 F. Cure time increases if temperature is lower than 60 F.||Will adhere to most surfaces. Not for use on Styrofoam. Apply adhesive to surface, then wait 2 minutes before adhering the surfaces. Uncured glue can be removed with acetone or citrus-based solvents. Cured glue can be removed by cutting and scraping. Works well on plastic, metal, glass, shrink plastic and other non-porous surfaces.|
|Gem-Tac Permanent Adhesive |
|Permanent, water-based, nontoxic and washable. Requires only a small amount to bond. Dries clear.||10 minutes. Allow to cure fully for 24 hours before washing.||Ideal for slick to porous surface applications. Ideal for bonding lace, fabrics, trims and decorative wire to glass, ceramics, patent leather, wood, vinyl, leather and other surfaces. Excellent for attaching rhinestones, gems, mirrors, pearls and other embellishments to a wide variety of materials. Good for sealing paper when working with resin. Pierce the applicator tip with a large paper clip to release a more precise line of glue. To cover larger surfaces, snip the tip near the top. Before curing, Gem-Tac is easily cleaned with water. Remove dried Gem-Tac from clothing by dry cleaning. Exposure to heat from the dryer will result in a stronger bond. Do not use on metal as rusting may result. Do not freeze.|
|Allergy Jewelry Shield |
|An extra-strong, permanent glue for base metals, semi-precious stones, glass, beads, bone, mirrors, wire, mosaics and more. Dries crystal clear. Waterproof and UV resistant for greater durability. Strong odor. Superior impact-resistant formula to keep stones and findings secure.||24 hours. Bond will increase over time.||Shields sensitive skin from irritants. Brush on one coat to metal jewelry that will be in contact with skin. Apply more coats as needed. Once applied lasts up to three months.|
