Flat, Even Count Peyote Stitch - Increasing
Increasing, or widening a strip of peyote stitch can be done two different ways. You can add rows along the outside edge, or rows can be added in the middle of the strip.
Print this Technique
To add rows on the outside, complete a row as usual, and then pick up two seed beads. Slide the two beads up next to the edge of the strip.
String one bead. Pass back through the first of the two beads strung in step 1.
String one bead, and pass through the next up bead, headed toward the opposite side of your beadweaving.
Continue the rest of the way across the row, stitching as normal.
To add rows in the middle of a strip, string two beads instead of one. Position this pair of beads toward the center of the row. The tension will be very tight.
Continue to stitch across the remainder of the row as usual.
String one bead, and begin a new row in the same way as all the previous rows.
Continue to stitch until the needle has passed through one of the two beads of the increase pair.
String one bead, and pass through the second bead of the increase pair.
Continue to stitch across the remainder of the row, adding one bead between each up bead as usual.
String one bead, and begin a new row in the normal manner. Continue this way, or add more rows as desired.
Congratulations, you have learned two ways to increase the width of even count peyote stitch!
