Painting Metal With Vintaj Patina
Learn how to use versatile Vintaj Patinas in your designs, letting you explore new dimensions of color in your jewelry!
Print this Technique
You will need a Vintaj Patina Kit, one Vintaj charm, a Metal Reliefing Block, Vintaj Glaze and a paint brush.
Choose your Vintaj item carefully - a bead or charm with a textured or decorative design works best. Lay a large piece of wax paper onto your work surface and set your chosen item on it. We chose a textured feather charm for this technique.
Drop a little of the first patina onto the wax paper.
Brush the patina onto the surface of the charm using short brush strokes.
Drop a little of the second patina onto the wax paper.
Brush a different area of the charm with the patina using short brush strokes. We used the lighter color on the outside of the charm and the darker color on the inside to create depth.
Using your desired patina color, follow the lines of the design in your charm with the paint brush. We followed the feather's lines with the darker color to add dimension.
While the patina is still slightly wet, use the dark side of the Metal Reliefing Block to remove patina from the raised area of the charm. This will accentuate the decorative design on the charm.
Step 9: OPTIONAL
Once you have finished filing the charm with the Metal Reliefing Block, you can paint a thin layer of Vintaj Glaze on the surface for extra shine. Set the charm on the wax paper to dry for 10 minutes.
Congratulations! You have successfully painted Vintaj Patina onto metal.
